Holiday in the Park & Las Posadas
Through Dec. 17. See Old Town decked out for the holidays with extended evening shopping hours and strolling carolers. On December 9 at 5 p.m., join a candlelight procession and celebrate Las Posadas—a centuries-old tradition in which actors re-enact the biblical journey of Mary and Joseph through Bethlehem. Old Town State Historic Park, San Diego Avenue and Twiggs Street.



Garden of Lights
Through Dec. 30. After the sun goes down in December, the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas is transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland. More than 125,000 sparkling lights illuminate the flora of this fantastic 37-acre urban oasis each evening for a magical holiday experience. Families will also enjoy nightly entertainment, food, hot coffee and treats and a variety of activities including horse-drawn wagon rides, crafts, marshmallow roasting, snow sledding and more. 5-9 p.m. $10 members, $15 non-members.


Toast of Gaslamp 
Dec. 9. Don your festive attire, round up your friends and head downtown for a self-guided walking tour that will have you tasting, toasting and shopping with 20 sips, 20 bites and 20 shopping deals around the Gaslamp Quarter. Wear your favorite ugly holiday sweater to receive entry into the Gaslamp grand prize giveaway. 1-5 p.m. $25 in advance, $30 day-of event. El Chingon, Gaslamp District, 560 Fifth Ave.



Mission Bay Christmas Boat Parade of Lights
Dec. 9. More than 100 illuminated vessels parade along Mission Bay, followed by a fireworks show at 9 p.m. above SeaWorld. 6 p.m. Free. Mission Bay.








Gaslamp Holiday Pet Parade
Dec. 10. Pooches will dress up as Santa, elves, reindeer and more and march down the festive streets of the Gaslamp. After the parade, enjoy a free pet expo. 3 p.m. March starts and ends at MLK Promenade Park, 401 K St., Gaslamp Quarter.




San Diego Bay Parade of Lights
Dec. 10, 17. See San Diego Bay twinkle with more than 100 private boats decked out with holiday lights for a festive night on the water. This year’s theme is “Arrrgh! A Pirate’s Christmas”. 5 p.m. Procession begins at Cesar Chavez Park before making the turn to Coronado.




San Diego Santa Run
Dec. 9. San Diego will be very merry indeed, as approximately 4,000 Santas take over Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach for the largest Santa Run in Southern California. Offering a series of waves to choose from, the event includes a 5K fun run and one-mile runs. 10 a.m. start. 900 Garnet Ave., Pacific Beach. $20-$50.



Sip & Savasana
Dec. 7. Leave time for some self-care as you head into the holiday season. The class will take place at Upper East Bar’s rooftop, overlooking the downtown San Diego skyline. After the class, enjoy yoga-themed cocktails and festive food. Make sure to bring your yoga mat. 6-8 p.m. Free. Kimpton Solamar Hotel, 435 6th Ave.



7th Annual Holiday Joy Ride
Dec. 7. Grab for your bike and head to Balboa Park for this 80s-themed, family-friendly bike ride and fundraiser. Riders will travel through Balboa Park on their tinsel-wrapped bikes and festive outfits before enjoying a post-ride Golden Gear Award ceremony at Panama 66. 5:30 p.m. $25. 1450 El Prado.




The Holiday Stroll
Dec. 9. Point Loma Village’s favorite boutiques, See/Saw and Good Dog Pet Outfitters, are teaming up to throw a holiday block party that supports small businesses. The family-friendly party will include discounts, festive face painting, pop-up shops, homemade peppermint coffee and more. 1 p.m. Corner of Cañon St. and Rosecrans St.



Winter Wonderland
Dec. 10, 17. For two special nights, The Maritime Museum of San Diego is transforming the parking lot into a winter wonderland. Features include ice skating, a bounce house, Santa photos and hot beverages. 4-8 p.m. No admission fee, extras can be purchased. 1492 N. Harbor Dr.




Give Back to Santa
Dec. 10. The Lafayette Hotel plays host for a family-friendly holiday event and canned food drive, with donations going to the San Diego Food Bank. Fun, free activities for all include a holiday cookie station, kaleidoscope carolers, kids’ open mic carols, a gingerbread house contest, a showing of A Christmas Story and more. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Free. 2223 El Cajon Blvd.

Dec. 6-10. Who says Santa best enjoys cookies with milk? ‘A Christmas Carol’
