Los Angeles Dinner Series Explores Art and Cuisine at LACMA

rays-stark-barRay’s & Stark Bar, Maite Gomez-Rejon of Artbites, and LACMA are joining forces as they announce the new dinner series, Cur-ATE, that aims to bridge the gap between culinary and fine arts.

In the three-dinner series you will experience intimate gallery discussions tracing the role of food in a historical and social context as displayed in art. Immediately following each tour, Chef Kris Morningstar, of the award-winning Ray’s & Stark Bar, will present a three course menu inspired by the evening’s theme. The sessions are:

The Parisian Salon
Jul. 9-10. The first French-themed dinner, The Parisian Salon, centers on the development of French dining habits from the 17th through the early 20th centuries. Maite Gomez-Rejon will lead you in conversations beginning with the French Court through the revolution and end in Gertrude Stein’s Paris. After the gallery, dine on a contemporary meal grounded in history featuring classic seasonal dishes from France.

Cooking American
Sept. 10.—11. The second dinner focuses on the evolution of American dining habits. Maite Gomez-Rejon guides you through LACMA’s American wing where you can leaf through historical cookbooks that show how Native American, African, and European traditions influenced art and food and helped shape the nation. After the tour enjoy a three-course dinner at Ray’s & Stark Bar featuring classic comfort foods indicative of the nation’s culinary landscape.

Italian Art and Gastronomy
Nov. 12-13. The final dinner highlights the art and food of Italy. Starting in antiquity and concluding with 18th century art. Then dine one an Italian/Roman-inspired dinner by Chef Kris Morningstar.
